2006年6月,托尼·布莱尔在GMB(英国总工会)大会上的发言开场白,首先表达了对Mary Turner几位杰出人士的感谢与赞扬。
Good morning, everyone. Thank you very much for inviting me to the GMB Conference this morning. As you probably know, I am going to speak for a short time and then take as long as possible for questions and answers.I was told on my way here that I am the first Labour Prime Minister to address the GMB since 1966, which either says a lot about the receptions which Prime Ministers get at the GMB or maybe there have not been many Labour Prime Ministers. One way or another, it is great to be here. I, obviously, look forward to seeing you again in 2046. (laughter from audience SOT)
I just like to say a few words of thanks before I could start what I am going to say to you.I would like to give a particular word of thanks to Mary Turner, who is one of the best and most decent people I know in the whole of the labour Movement. She has done a fantastic job for your Union and the Labour Party and we are proud of her.Thank you, Mary. (Applause SOT)
Mary is joined on the NEC now by Debbie, and Debbie, to say the least, for the past few years has made a big difference on the National Executive. She is the chair, along with me, of the Joint Policy Committee of the Party. She has made a great contribution to the NEC and you should just know that on the National Executive you are well served by the representatives of your Union and you can be very, very proud of them / Thank you, Debbie, for all the work you do.
Of course, it would not be right to address you without also saying a word of thanks to Paul Kenny, your General Secretary, who now has a new pair of knees or something.I do not know what else you are getting replaced but anyway it is great to see you back with us looking so well. One of the things I want to say to you is that one of the reasons why I wanted to come here this morning is because of the leadership of Paul Kenny. He is somebody I admire a great deal, I do not know if that is a real problem for you, I apologise if it is.Sometimes people prefer me not to pay them compliments now.Nonetheless, he does a fantastic job for the Union. When he represents the Union on the national stage in this country, it is a plus for the Union, and if it is a plus for the Union it is a plus for the members, so thank you, Paul, very much indeed. (Applause SOT)
