2006年6月,托尼·布莱尔在GMB(英国总工会)大会上的发言:他表示热切希望工会与工党今后能实现更广泛的合作。

And I just want to pay tribute to the work the Union as a whole has done, this is the second point I wanted to make to you.Sometimes you need someone to come from outside of the organisation just to give you a little picture of what has been happening with your own situation. The fact is that the GMB across a whole range of areas, has been recruiting members like school support staff, like the Group 4/Securicor agreement which you have got/ You are representing people well in local government and elsewhere, You are making some ground breaking agreements. The Union itself is providing a top quality service for the members and we need that partnership with you to continue.

The final thing I want to say in opening my remarks to you is this, When we spent those 18 years in Opposition and when for year on year we would come here, to the Winter Gardens, or to Brighton and we would pass resolutions about the iniquities and wickedness of the Tory Government, the fact is that we were impotent to do anything about it.The problem with government is that with government comes responsibility.Decisions can be difficult and decisions disappoint people. If it was easy, then everything would be easy, but it isn’t, sometimes the choices are high.At key points in the past few years the choices we have made have been choices according to Labour values, not Tory values.

There is a reason why I am here as a Labour Prime Minister today, and that is because we created the circumstances in which we could run both a strong economy and make social change in our country. If you go into any school today and you see the new teachers, the new computers and the new classrooms, or for all the difficulties and challenges in the Health Service - remember what it was like in those Tory years - we can see the difference a Labour Government makes. That is why whatever happens for the next few years, the one thing the GMB and the Labour Party must do is to work together to lay the platform for that victory. We have never had two consecutive full terms of a Labour Government. We have never had three full terms or even been near it, it is not enough. If we want to make lasting change in this country, we need a fourth election victory too, and I want you to help us to get it.Thank you very much. (Applause SOT)
